11 November 2024 – Maval Police Administration and Income Tax Department have taken major action in the wake of Maharashtra Assembly Elections. Cash worth lakhs of rupees has been seized on the same day in two separate incidents at Somatne toll booth. Due to this, the transparency of the election has been questioned.

Strict action against illegal performance of opposition parties

The Maval Police Administration and Income Tax Department are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure that money is not misused during the elections. While following the Model Election Code of Conduct, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has taken special care to ensure that there is no unauthorized movement of cash in any way.

First Action: Seizure of Rs.2 Lakhs

Police Sub-Inspector Rahul Koli of Crime Branch Crime Branch Squad No. 5 and his colleagues conducted a surprise vehicle check at Somatne Toll Naka when two persons Vijay Maruti Mandule (age 29) and Sanket Bhau Wadekar (age 23) seized vehicle number MH 14H Q 8900. 2 lakh cash was seized from This money has been handed over to the Election Commission.

Second Action: Forfeiture of Rs.85,230

Also, once again at Somatne toll naka on 7 November 2024, Assistant Police Inspector of Talegaon Dabhade Police Station and his team recovered cash of Rs.85,230 from the possession of Akshay Ramdas Atole (age 19) from vehicle number MH 14 FS 9400. This amount has been informed to the Election Team, and it has been handed over to the Paying Team for further action.

Strict action by the Election Commission

Following this action by the police and the Income Tax Department, the Election Commission has warned all citizens that strict action will be taken against any money used to rig the election process in any way. Also, he has urged voters to consciously report such incidents to the police.
